This is a collection of things written by a guy named John (who looks after a dog named Arche—in case that’s info you care about).

Why does this site exist?

Short answer: I’m a writer, so I write.

Long answer: I believe the point of life, the universe, and everything is to make stuff. If there’s a singular purpose driving all existence, I think creation is the simplest explanation—novelty for its own sake, as if a god breathed chaotic, random energy into a bubble for the sole purpose of seeing what happens.

As an active participant in that bubble, my job is to add to the ever-growing collection of new stuff. I accomplish that with everything I do—every conversation is a new thing; as is every meal and trip to the bathroom. But on top of those incidental acts of creation, I also have the ability to be deliberate with my contributions to the universe’s portfolio of stuff. I could paint or sing—but I’m not drawn to those things. I do feel drawn to writing, though. So, I’ve taken that as a sign that I should do it, and here we are.

That’s the heady philosophical explanation, but I’m also here to dump things out of my head and onto a page as a way of organizing the mess in my brain. I’m here to share some ideas on things that might change the way you look at the world. I’m here to engage in a form of telepathy where I invite you to poke around in my head—either out of morbid curiosity or a sense of familiarity.

So: welcome. I’ve no idea what you’ll find here; it’s all just random things I thought to write.

Enjoy!
